Maurice “Mo” Johnson
Retired Fire Chief Maurice Johnson brings over three decades of distinguished leadership and operational expertise in the fire service. Beginning his career in 1989, he rose to the rank of Assistant Chief with the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District (Metro Fire), where he served in diverse roles including Air Operations Tactical Flight Officer, Battalion Chief, Director of Emergency Medical Services, Operations Shift Commander, Fire Marshal, and Special Operations/Governmental Affairs.
Following his tenure at Metro Fire, Chief Johnson served as Fire Chief of the El Dorado Hills Fire Department for six years, retiring in December 2024. In this role, he led and managed a team of highly skilled firefighters and paramedics, delivering exceptional emergency services to the community. Over his 35 years in the fire service, Chief Johnson gained experience across operations, emergency medical services, ARFF, air operations, fire prevention, training, labor relations, and governmental affairs.
Beyond his departmental leadership, Chief Johnson has made significant contributions to the fire service profession through his work on local and state boards, and professional boards, including serving as Vice-Chair of the FIRESCOPE Board of Directors, Area 3 North Director for the California Fire Chiefs Association (CFCA), and a member of the Board of Directors for the Fire Districts Association of California (FDAC). An active contributor to the development and improvement of key fire service initiatives, Chief Johnson has been instrumental in advancing systems such as the Incident Command System (ICS) and the Multi-Agency Coordination System (MACS). His advocacy for public safety spans local, state, and national levels, reflecting a mission to enhance the safety and effectiveness of the fire service and the communities it serves.
